Built
around the theme "Social Studies: The Heart of the
Curriculum", this year's conference will feature a
special focus on the position of social studies as the center of
the curriculum, touching every other subject area. Social studies
is also a primary area for reaching affective goals, which are so
crucial in citizenship development. Then, there is the heart that
all good social studies teachers bring to their work. NCSS 2005
can help you create effective citizens through more than 300
sessions, workshops, and clinics. Keynote speakers will open your
eyes and engage your mind. Hundreds of exhibit booths will
showcase the latest products and services for the classroom
teacher. And tours will bring the Midwest's history -- and future
-- to life. Take this opportunity to meet and share ideas with
educators from across the country and around the world. Join your
colleagues this November in Kansas City, Missouri. |

- We are hosting the first YEAR IV in-service day. Dr Aaron Willis, the Chief Education Officer for Social Studies School Service will be presenting the "Students as Historian" workshop to approximately 30 of our TAH Grant teachers. He is a sought after presenter and should be well worth our time and effort.
You are welcome to attend as much or as little of the day as you wish. At least come have lunch (11:45-12:30) with us if you can.
Let Mike know, so he can have a good "guesstimate" as to numbers.
Tuesday, November 13th
- we have scheduled our second YEAR IV TAH Committee meeting at 3:30 in
Mike's room. As always, we appreciate the committee members' attendance; and
Mike will update any of you with previous commitments as to our agenda and discussions.

teachers from around northwest Missouri gathered on Monday, January 28,
2008,
in the lobby of the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center for the eighth
and last one-day inservice
held as part of the Teaching American History Grant, now in its fourth
year. The day featured comments
from Dr. patty Palmer on economics; Kendra Coor, Theme Schemes, on
